Council Wards
The four wards representing the MacDonnell Regional Council are based on resident language groupings and population distribution. The residents of MacDonnell Council elect a total of twelve Councillors to represent the four wards for a four year term. The Councillors currently serving were elected in March 2012 and they subsequently elected their President and Deputy President.

Iyarrka Ward
Iyarrka Ward covers an area where Pitjantjatjara is predominantly spoken. Consequently it takes in Docker River and Imanpa communities and hooks around neighbouring wards to also include Areyonga. Its elected Councillors, Marlene Abbott and Selina Kultja, are both from Docker River.

Ljirapinta Ward
Ljirapinta Ward represents residents in and around the communities of Hermannsburg and Wallace Rockhole where Western Arrernte is the predominant language. Roxanne Kenny, Braydon Williams and Mark Inkamala are elected Councillors from Hermannsburg. Roxanne is the Council President.
