Nominations Now Open for 2025 Local Government Elections

Do you care about your community? Do you want to help shape decisions that impact everyday life across the MacDonnell region? Now is the time to step forward.

Nominations for the 2025 Northern Territory Local Government Elections are now open. If you live in the MacDonnell Regional Council area and are passionate about making a difference, you could be the next community leader we need.

Why nominate?

Local councils are the level of government closest to where people live. They make decisions about local services, infrastructure, parks, waste management, youth programs, community events, and more.

By nominating as a councillor, you can help shape the future of your community — and bring lived experience, culture, and strong local knowledge into council decision-making.

We need more voices at the table. Women, young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and others with diverse life experience are especially encouraged to nominate.

Who can nominate?

Most people living in the MRC area will be eligible. You can nominate if you:

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Are an Australian citizen

  • Live in the local council area you are nominating for

You don’t need to be an expert or have formal qualifications. If you’re a good listener, a community helper, or someone with a strong voice and big heart — you already have what it takes.

New councillors receive full training and ongoing support.
