MacDonnell Regional Council (MRC) is proud to introduce its first fully electric vehicle, marking an important step in Council’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.
The vehicle features a unique Indigenous artwork design, celebrating the culture, communities and landscapes that make the MacDonnell Region special.
Operating across a vast region of remote Central Australia, Council relies on a large fleet of vehicles, many of which run on diesel to deliver essential services to communities. While the introduction of one electric vehicle is a small step, it represents a practical move towards more sustainable operations.
Council President Roxanne Kenny said the purchase reflects Council’s commitment to finding practical ways to reduce its environmental impact.
“We know that operating across such a vast region means we rely heavily on vehicles to deliver services to our communities. While this is only one vehicle, it’s an important first step and shows our commitment to reducing our environmental impact wherever we can.”
The new vehicle forms part of a broader range of sustainability initiatives underway across MRC, including Healthy Community Events that promote wellbeing and active lifestyles, chilled water refill stations to reduce reliance on single-use plastic bottles, and ongoing efforts to reduce plastic use across Council operations.
Council continues to explore practical solutions to support more sustainable service delivery across its communities. MRC is proud to take this first step and remains committed to making positive environmental changes towards a cleaner, healthier future for our region.
