Hermannsburg

Also known locally as Ntaria, Hermannsburg is located 130km west of Alice Springs in the traditional lands of the Western Arrarnta people. The name Hermannsburg came from a town in Germany where the newly arrived Lutheran missionaries of 1877 had been trained. With a population today of 625 residents, Hermannsburg is part of the Ljirapinta Ward of the MacDonnell Regional Council.

Services provided in Hermannsburg by the MacDonnell Regional Council include roads, cemetery maintenance, rubbish collection and tip maintenance, internal roads maintenance, parks and open spaces and sporting grounds.

On behalf of the Northern Territory Government, the Council provides airstrip maintenance as well as Commonwealth Government funded services, including operating children’s services, youth development services, home care services and night patrol services. MacDonnell Council is also contracted by Power Water Corporation to maintain the water and sewerage facilities, Australia Post to provide postal delivery services and by Centrelink to provide its services through an agency in its Council office.
